Description With this Vibers PLA filament from colorFabb you can create the most stunning smooth prints with a matte finish. The product was developed in collaboration with the Dutch company Vibers and contains 10% elephant grass. The filament is therefore slightly more brittle, but the CO2 footprint of each print is a third less than normal PLA.

This colorFabb filament has a diameter of 1.75mm. The colour is predominantly white, but is reminiscent of marl due to a slightly yellow tint. The filament is supplied on a coil of recycled cardboard to further minimise the use of plastic.

Normal PLA is biodegradable, emits almost no odor during printing and can easily be printed at a lower temperature. Description This yellow LW-PLA filament from colorFabb is perfect for printing RC planes, cosplay items and other lightweight parts. Printed objects are very light but retain good strength. In addition, they are easy to cut, trim and sand. The yellow filament has a diameter of 1.75mm and provides a matte finish. Because the filament starts to foam at about 230°C, increasing it up to almost 3x in volume. Due to the increase in volume, the weight can be reduced by up to 65% compared to normal PLA.

What are the key advantages of PLA?

PLA filament offers a number of key advantages that make it one of the most popular and beginner friendly 3D printing materials. It prints easily due to its low temperature requirements and minimal warping, meaning it doesn’t usually need a heated bed or enclosed chamber. At the same time, PLA is known for producing excellent surface quality with smooth finishes and high detail, making it ideal for prototypes, models, toys, and decorative prints. PLA is also made from renewable resources such as corn starch and sugarcane, giving it a more environmentally conscious profile while emitting very little odour during printing, which makes it suitable for indoor use. Additionally, PLA is rigid and strong enough for many low stress applications and comes in a huge range of colours and specialty blends (including PLA+, matte, silk, and wood filled variants) offering versatility for both functional and aesthetic projects.

What technical specs and printing settings does PLA require?

PLA has straightforward technical specifications and is one of the easiest filaments to set up for reliable printing – making it ideal for first time or beginners only just getting into 3D printing. Most PLA comes in either 1.75 mm or 2.85 mm diameter, with 1.75 mm being the most common across consumer printers. It prints at relatively low temperatures, typically needing a nozzle temperature of around 190–220°C, depending on the brand and printer. PLA can be printed without a heated bed, but many users still prefer using one set between 50–60°C for improved first‑layer adhesion. PLA does not need an enclosure because it experiences very little warping compared to materials like ABS. Since PLA is hygroscopic, it should be stored in a dry environment to prevent moisture absorption, which can cause bubbling or poor surface finish on your prints. For post‑processing, PLA can be sanded, primed, and painted, and it can be annealed to increase heat resistance.

Why is PLA recommended for beginners?
