Description Glow in the dark PLA from Spectrum is based on PLA with the addition of a phosphorescent pigment. This will cause the filament to light up after exposure to light. The added pigment particles of this filament do not affect the properties of the filament. The pigment ensures that your 3D print will emit light after exposure to a light source. The intensity of the light can be adjusted by adjusting the wall thickness and infill. This filament is 1.75 mm, comes in the color Blue and has 1 Kg on the spool.

Tip: To make your 3D print emit a stronger light for a longer period of time, you should expose the print to the light for a longer period of time.

Please note: Glow in the dark filament has an abrasive effect in the nozzle, which causes it to wear out faster. It is therefore recommended to replace the nozzle more often and/or to choose a harder stainless steel nozzle or hardened nozzle with a minimum size of 0.6 mm.

It prints easily due to its low temperature requirements and minimal warping, meaning it doesn’t usually need a heated bed or enclosed chamber. At the same time, PLA is known for producing excellent surface quality with smooth finishes and high detail, making it ideal for prototypes, models, toys, and decorative prints. PLA is also made from renewable resources such as corn starch and sugarcane, giving it a more environmentally conscious profile while emitting very little odour during printing, which makes it suitable for indoor use. Additionally, PLA is rigid and strong enough for many low stress applications and comes in a huge range of colours and specialty blends (including PLA+, matte, silk, and wood filled variants) offering versatility for both functional and aesthetic projects.

What technical specs and printing settings does PLA require?

PLA has straightforward technical specifications and is one of the easiest filaments to set up for reliable printing – making it ideal for first time or beginners only just getting into 3D printing. Most PLA comes in either 1.75 mm or 2.85 mm diameter, with 1.75 mm being the most common across consumer printers. It prints at relatively low temperatures, typically needing a nozzle temperature of around 190–220°C, depending on the brand and printer. PLA can be printed without a heated bed, but many users still prefer using one set between 50–60°C for improved first‑layer adhesion. PLA does not need an enclosure because it experiences very little warping compared to materials like ABS. Since PLA is hygroscopic, it should be stored in a dry environment to prevent moisture absorption, which can cause bubbling or poor surface finish on your prints. For post‑processing, PLA can be sanded, primed, and painted, and it can be annealed to increase heat resistance.
